Patient Access Representative II – MetroWest Medical Center
Job Summary
Responsible for duties that support departmental efficiencies including scheduling, registration, patient pre‑admission and admission, reception, and discharge functions. Must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information and employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Greeting patients following Conifer Standards of Care, providing world‑class customer service, completing full patient registration at the date of service, adhering to financial & cash control policies & procedures, thoroughly explaining and securing hospital & patient legal forms (e.g., Advance Directives, Conditions of Services, Consent for treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA, etc.), scanning PHI, and creating and filing patient information packets for upcoming hospital services. May also assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures, providing appointment instructions, and other related tasks.
Educating patients about financial liabilities and employing proper, compliant collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service; performing hospital cash reconciliation and securing payment entry in accordance with financial & cash control policies.
Securing medical necessity checks/verification per CMS requirements, verifying insurance, benefits, coverage, and eligibility, completing assigned registration financial clearance work lists, obtaining authorizations for scheduled & unscheduled services, and securing inpatient visit notification to payors. May also assist with scheduling and coordinating post‑discharge care for patients.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Typing skills of 35 wpm
Working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer
Knowledge of hospital environment relationships (preferred)
Customer service skills and experience
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Understanding of third‑party payor requirements (preferred)
Understanding of compliance standards (preferred)
Ability to perform essential duties in at least two patient access service areas including Emergency Department
Professional negotiation techniques for collecting patient/guarantor payments
Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external clients
Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
0–1 year in a customer‑service role
0–1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area preferred
Some college coursework preferred
Physical Demands
Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods
Resolve physician office and patient issues in high volume settings
Occasional lift/carry of items up to 25 lbs
Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking
Occasional push a wheelchair to assist patients with mobility
Work Environment
Hospital administration setting
Potential exposure to life‑threatening patient conditions

Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands
Conifer requires candidates to provide proof of required vaccinations and screenings (COVID‑19, influenza, etc.) before start of employment
Compensation & Benefit Information
Pay: $19.02 – $28.53 per hour
Shift differentials of $1.00–$2.50 per hour may be available depending on shift
Observed holidays receive time and a half
