The Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) in the Blood Bank performs advanced, specialized laboratory testing to support safe and effective transfusion services. The role is responsible for independently performing and validating complex immunohematology procedures—including blood typing, antibody screening and identification, compatibility testing, and investigation of transfusion reactions. Additional Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components Perform ABO/Rh, IAT, DAT, antibody identification, crossmatching units of blood and running the automated ABO/RH, IAT equipment Wash red blood cells and platelets Perform platelet crossmatching and platelet antibody identification Perform daily reagent QC and equipment preventive maintenance Issue blood and blood components to the floors Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as set forth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol Communicate effectively with the blood bank customers including physicians, nurses, and other UAMS staff members Receive samples and ensure all samples are appropriately labeled and collected properly for the Blood Bank Assist in training of new staff and students Maintain competency and train on all revised and new policy/procedures in a timely manner Report any deviation from standard operating procedures to the supervisor in a timely manner Assist with performance of quarterly, semi-annual, and annual quality control Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences or Bachelor of Science in related discipline with 2 years of experience ASCP Certification or equivalent 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory Salary Information
