Registered Nurse

Position Description Provides direct nursing care, patient education and counselling, coordination of services for patients and their families, supervision of program activities in specialized areas, and assessment of patient needs. This position is intended for use in an institutional, inpatient setting involving high-risk and high‑acuity patients within South Carolina state agencies. Registered Nurses in this role may serve as a Charge Nurse on a rotating basis or function as a Nurse Educator or Case Manager, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of nursing techniques, practices, and medical terminology

Ability to follow standing orders, policies, and procedures

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans

Ability to establish and maintain patient trust and cooperation

Ability to interact with patients in a culturally competent and professional manner

Ability to prepare educational and training materials for nursing care programs

Knowledge of administrative methods and procedures

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations

Ability to function effectively as a team member

Ability to instruct, supervise, and direct paraprofessional staff

Requirements

Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing

Positions require Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
