Job Summary Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the proficient level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process. The nurse delivers safe and effective care, interacts with other members of the health care team, and consistently models excellence in patient care. The role contributes to unit leadership and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards and MUSC policies.

Key Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).

Direct and lead other assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care.

Provide patient/family-centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.

Participate in shared governance, adhere to standards of care, and engage in peer review and professional development.

Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services and identify clinical priorities to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.

Registered Nurse with at least one year of work experience.

Licensed by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or an approved compact state.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.

For RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing, enrollment in an accredited BSN program within two years and successful completion of the BSN within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date is required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

Proficiency in manual dexterity for tasks such as taking vitals, administering injections, or conducting exams.

Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.

Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts and monitors.

Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues.

Stamina and resilience to handle long shifts and stressful situations.

Mobility to navigate clinical environments.

Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
