Physical Requirements: Sitting and walking for long period of time; lifting of object up to 50 lbs.

Shift: Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays; require on-call based on the needs of department.

Job Summary: The Blood Bank Technical Specialist will be working in a fast-paced academic medical center. The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of this Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.

This position will be instrumental in maintaining a quality of service based on accuracy and timely result reporting. The position will be served as a education and safety coordinator in the Blood Bank department and monitors shift operation.

The position performs testing that includes, but is not limited to, type and screen, cross-matching, antibody workup, elution, absorption, antibody titering, neonatal workup, and component preparation.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: Clinical Laboratory background, ability to work under pressure, to work independently and to work well with others. Must have writing, organizational and computer skills.

Preferred Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.

MT/BB or equivalent certification

At least 3 years of Blood Bank experience in a high complexity facility, involving supervisory, safety, quality assurance, and student education preferred
