Job Summary The Blood Bank Technical Specialist will work in a fast‑paced academic medical center. The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of this Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.

This position will be instrumental in maintaining quality of service based on accuracy and timely result reporting. The position will serve as an education and safety coordinator in the Blood Bank department and monitor shift operations.

The position performs testing that includes, but is not limited to, type and screen, cross‑matching, antibody workup, elution, absorption, antibody titering, neonatal workup, and component preparation.

Our CAP and AABB‑Accredited Laboratory at the University of Kentucky showcases the use of state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation and technology.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Clinical Laboratory background, ability to work under pressure, independently and collaboratively, writing, organizational and computer skills.

Qualifications Must have Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science, MT/BB or equivalent certification.

At least 3 years of Blood Bank experience in a high‑complexity facility, involving supervisory, safety, quality assurance, and student education is preferred.
