About the Position TravelNurseSource is partnering with Fusion Medical Staffing to place a qualified Med/Surg RN in Kalamazoo, Michigan (postal code 49048). Summary The Med/Surg/Tele Registered Nurse is responsible for comprehensive, patient‑centered care in medical‑surgical and telemetry settings. The role requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient safety and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions
Explain procedures and treatments to patients and families
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
Conduct comprehensive assessments and document changes in patient condition
Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and assist physicians during treatments
Maintain a safe, comfortable environment for patients recovering from medical or surgical procedures
Document patient information comprehensively in the medical record
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement individualized care plans
Manage multiple patients efficiently, prioritizing care based on acuity and clinical needs
Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed, including hand hygiene and PPE use
Advocate for patients’ needs and preferences
Facilitate discharge planning and coordinate with external resources
Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
One year of recent Med/Surg/Tele RN experience
Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS (AHA/ARC) certification
Preferred Qualifications
NIHSS certification
ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification
Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills
Proficient in the English language
Ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions
Basic PC skills
Physical abilities: stationary position, moving equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal skills: work effectively with a variety of personnel, maintain positivity and professionalism
Technical skills: fine manipulation, push/pull, and movement assistance during procedures
Mental requirements: coping with frequent public contact, meeting deadlines under pressure, occasional supervision, and irregular schedules
Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication
