Perform independent comprehensive respiratory assessment and therapy as prescribed by a physician. Provide patient and significant other with education, prepare, operate and maintain respiratory care equipment.
Base Pay Range $55.00/hr – $55.00/hr
Responsibilities
Review patient record data including history, labs, radiology, progress notes, and monitoring data.
Document and communicate respiratory therapy data to the healthcare team.
Assess cardiopulmonary status using observation, auscultation, bedside tests, non‑invasive monitoring, and interview techniques.
Interview patient to determine orientation, dyspnea, ADLs, social support, nutrition, and learning needs.
Perform and interpret bedside procedures: pulse oximetry, ABG analysis, co‑oximetry, mixed venous sampling, hemodynamic and pulmonary mechanics.
Obtain additional data by calculating lung compliance, airway resistance, work of breathing, PaO2/FIO2 ratio, and non‑invasive monitoring including airway graphics.
Select, assemble, and check equipment for proper function, operation, and cleanliness.
Perform quality control procedures for blood analysis devices, diagnostic equipment, ventilators, and gas metering devices.
Explain planned therapy and goals, evaluate, monitor, and record patient response to respiratory care.
Communicate results of therapy to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
Perform blood gas sampling including arterial punctures, arterial line sampling, and Swan‑Ganz catheter sampling.
Monitor mechanical ventilator patients: airway pressures, tidal volumes, respiratory rate, I/E ratio, FIO2, cuff pressure, and alarm settings.
Modify mechanical ventilation: recommendations and adjustments to the respiratory care plan.
Assess mechanical ventilator patients for weaning parameters and possible extubations.
Instruct, initiate, and adjust mechanical nasal mask and negative pressure ventilation for adequate spontaneous and artificial ventilation.
Modify artificial airway management including endotracheal tube positioning, cuff pressure monitoring, tracheotomy care, and airway humidification adjustments.
Administer medicated aerosol therapy, encourage bronchopulmonary hygiene, and assist in suctioning bronchopulmonary secretions when indicated.
Make modifications in therapeutic procedures based on patient response.
Modify oxygen and specialty gas therapy, altering mode, flow, and concentration as appropriate.
Explain various procedures to employees, patients, or families.
Assist pulmonary physicians as required.
Initiate, conduct, or modify respiratory care techniques in emergencies.
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or equivalent; Certificate of completion from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
Current New York State Respiratory Therapist license.
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience preferred.
