Shift Details

Full‑time nights, 3–12 hour shifts, 7:00 pm – 7:00 am

Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 6‑week scheduling period

Experience requirements: 2 years of nursing experience; oncology experience preferred

Patient Population

Med/Surg oncology, chemotherapy, postoperative surgery (breast, bladder, lung, colon, cranial)

Cardiac drips, palliative care (end‑of‑life and hospice support)

Patient ratios: 1:4 for chemo; 1:5 for med/tele. Number of beds: 20.

Department Specifics Active unit‑based council. Pharmacist and social worker available during the day to partner with nurses. Multidisciplinary team collaboration. Chemotherapy training required within first 90 days.

Job Summary As a Registered Nurse, oversee patient care using a professional practice model. Responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, assessing responses, securing patient travel, and following the Texas Nursing Practice Act. Tasks are delegated based on condition and team competencies.

Essential Functions of the Role

Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.

Create, implement, and evaluate care plans; adjust plans to reach desired outcomes.

Build therapeutic relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism.

Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members; assess learning needs.

Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.

Apply problem‑solving strategies with patients, families, and staff; prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.

Collaborate with team, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and demonstrate community service.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Experience: 2 years of nursing experience; oncology experience preferred.

Certification / License / Registration: Registered Nurse (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
