Job Summary The EEG Technician is a non‑credentialed technician, performing specialized neurodiagnostic procedures under the supervision of the Neurodiagnostic Technologist and the Medical Director of Neurodiagnostic Services.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Prepares patients for testing and performs the neurodiagnostic procedures within their scope of practice.
Edits and prepares tests for physician reading. Reports findings or concerns promptly to the physician.
Manages clinical seizure and/or medical emergencies as required. Performs mobile and in‑lab studies.
Completes administrative functions to include billing, report generation, scheduling, training, education, and inventory.
Determines appropriate methodology and techniques for administering procedures. Sets correct calibration and adjusts equipment as needed. Arranges immobilization or support devices for proper patient positioning.
Recognizes ictal and inter‑ictal electrographic patterns. Performs archival and associated data processing of neurodiagnostic recordings.
Demonstrates knowledge of infection control standards relating to patient, equipment, and electrodes. Is knowledgeable of all isolation protocols. Complies with department/institution guidelines for handling of infections/hazardous materials. Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order. Verifies appropriate calibrations and makes adjustments if necessary. Troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor promptly.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Performs clerical duties as required including scheduling of procedures, archiving of studies, and department paperwork. Promotes and participates in continuous improvement projects. Practices workplace safety and safe environmental practices.
Complies with Patient/Family‑Centered Care standards by demonstrating dignity and respect for patient and family, and ensuring patients and families receive timely, complete and accurate information to participate in care and decision making.
Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
High School Diploma, General or GED, General or Accredited Program in Neuroscience
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor or BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support
Additional License(s) And Certification(s) Registry Eligible for ABRET Upon Hire Preferred
Required Minimum Experience Education clarification: vocational or technical training in EEG. EEG trained with documented competency. Required.
