RN – 7W Respiratory Unit
Schedule: PRN, 24 hrs/4-week schedule, 7a-7:30p
Location: Summa Health System – Akron Campus
Unit description: This is a med/surg unit specializing in respiratory ailments and care, including trach and chronic ventilator patients.
Unit Size: 28-bed unit
Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:6

Highlights
$5/hr shift differential for nights; $1/hr for weekends
Summary Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.
Per Diem Requirements
Working a minimum of 24 hours in a four‑week schedule period
Inpatient, Behavioral Health, and Emergency Department staff must work at least 12 hours on a weekend, holiday, or hard‑to‑fill shift.
Holidays include: New Year’s, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
Hard‑to‑fill shifts include: Super Bowl Sunday, President’s Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve
Surgical Services staff must meet scheduling requirements as set by unit director / ACNO
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education Required:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
Experience and Training Required:
One (1) year recent experience in the area of practice.
Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; All nurses new to critical care, telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current card. Experienced critical care RNs and RNs hired as per diems in critical care, telemetry, PACU, and ED are expected to have ACLS certification upon hire. If not credentialed, they must obtain ACLS certification within six weeks of hire.
Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self‑respect, dignity and diversity.
Level of Physical Demands: Heavy: Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.

Salary $48.50/hr - $48.50/hr The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials.
