Performs comprehensive chairside assisting in all phases of dental care, including emergency dentistry, restorative procedures, pediatrics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, implant surgeries, and periodontics. Supports clinical operations through a variety of responsibilities, including preventive and routine maintenance of dental operatories and equipment; operation of radiographic equipment; and clerical tasks and front‑desk functions to support patient intake and scheduling. Executes dental laboratory duties, including pouring and trimming molds, and fabricating custom dental appliances. Responsibilities
CHAIR SIDE ASSISTANCE:
Assist dental students, residents, and faculty in the treatment of patients requiring emergency, restorative, prosthodontic, periodontic, endodontic, and/or oral surgery services. Participate in four‑handed dentistry, providing chairside support with air, water, suction, and instrumentation. Accurately mix and prepare dental materials. Assist with rubber dam placement, local anesthetic preparation, and sharps disposal. Operate high‑volume evacuation, comply with PPE and infection control protocols, and manage hazardous materials. OPERATORY MAINTENANCE AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT:
Manage and replenish dental and specialty supplies. Maintain operatories in a clean, organized, and fully functional state. Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained. Prepare, package, and maintain instruments and equipment under infection control protocols. DENTAL LABORATORY SUPPORT AND PROSTHODONTIC FABRICATION:
Perform laboratory tasks such as pouring prosthodontic models, trimming opinions, boxing and waxing impressions. Fabricate custom trays, night guards, mouth guards, bleaching trays, and bite rims. Polish dentures and appliances, take and mount face‑bow records, and reline dentures. RADIOLOGY:
Operate dental radiographic equipment to obtain intraoral and extraoral images. Explain procedures to patients. Position lead aprons and collars. Process, review, and upload radiographs into the patient electronic record system. OPERATORY PREPARATION:
Prepare operatories for treatment, layout instruments, seat and drape patients, explain procedures. Assist with anesthetic syringes and material mixing. Prepare surgical operatories with sterile draping. Assist in specialty areas as needed. CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION AND CROSS‑DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT:
Enter clinical findings into the electronic health record. Assist in scheduling follow‑up appointments. Provide support across departments and assist in fabrication of instructional materials. OUTREACH, BOARD SUPPORT, AND SPECIAL EVENT PARTICIPATION:
Provide assisting services at off‑campus sites. Participate in board examinations and certification events. Assist with health fairs and community outreach. INFECTION CONTROL, SAFETY, AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS:
Follow PPE and infection control guidelines. Dispose of sharps and hazardous waste. Follow emergency response protocols and administer basic emergency procedures. OTHER:
Perform all other duties assigned by DCG management. Required Qualifications
High School graduate, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization with one year of related experience. OR Certified Dental Assistant and/or Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in an applicable related field of study. Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a certified Dental Assisting program with three years of experience, including experience mixing dental materials, taking x‑rays, and chair‑side dental assisting skills across multiple disciplines. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge:
Understanding of dental terminology, procedures, and infection control protocols. Familiarity with chairside assisting in general dentistry and specialties. Working knowledge of instruments, materials, and sterilization techniques. Basic knowledge of radiographic techniques and safety protocols. Awareness of HIPAA regulations. Understanding of dental charting systems and electronic health records. Skills:
Proficient in four‑handed dentistry and use of suction, retraction, isolation. Skilled in taking and processing radiographs. Capable of preparing dental materials. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Efficient in time management, multitasking, and maintaining a clean operatory. Abilities:
Ability to remain calm in fast‑paced situations. Ability to follow complex instructions and anticipate dentist needs. Ability to accommodate varying dentist styles. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M‑F Pay Band: B3 Salary: Minimum $16.54/hour Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period: Until Filled Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan, earned vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
