Position Overview An established academic dental clinic is seeking an experienced
Dental Assistant
to support multiple departments within a School of Dentistry. This role involves chairside assistance, clinical operations, and educational support for providers, residents, interns, and dental students in a fast‑paced teaching environment. Flexibility and strong clinical skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Dental Assisting
Provide chairside assistance to providers, residents, interns, and dental students
Perform four‑handed and six‑handed dentistry
Assist with suctioning, tissue retraction, radiographs, impressions, and pouring models
Prepare and disinfect treatment rooms and surgical suites
Communicate post‑operative instructions to patients
Clinical Operations
Organize daily workflow according to patient schedules
Collect and document vital signs and patient information
Assist with treatment plans, consent forms, and patient records
Coordinate follow‑up appointments with scheduling teams
Prepare instruments for sterilization and ensure infection control compliance
Maintenance & Inventory
Maintain dental instruments, equipment, and clinical supplies
Monitor inventory levels and place supply orders as neededEnsure cleanliness and organization of clinical areas
Administrative & Educational Support
Support and train other dental assistants as needed
Assist dental students with chairside techniques and operatory setup
Reinforce aseptic techniques and infection control standards
Collaborate with scheduling, billing, sterile processing, and environmental services
Requirements
Completion of an approved
Dental Assistant training program
OR 1 year of chairside dental assisting experience
Minimum 2+ years of recent dental assisting experience
Experience in an advanced dental specialty within the last 5 years
Proficient in exposing radiographs and instrument sterilization
State Radiological Proficiency Certification required
Current BLS certification (AHA or approved vendor)
Epic EMR experience required
Clean background and license
Preferred Qualifications
EFDA, EFODA, DAANC, dental anesthesia, or sedation/surgical certifications
Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program
Experience in academic or teaching hospital settings
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and carry up to 30 lbs
Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive motions
Ability to wear required PPE and operate clinical equipment
