Job Summary and Qualifications The
Lactation Consultant
serves as clinical expert for lactation and breastfeeding, providing in-depth individual assistance for mothers and families experiencing routine or complex circumstances associated with breastfeeding. The
Lactation Consultant
supports breastfeeding through education and patient consultation. The
Lactation Consultant
assists with implementation of current, evidence-based policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Performs complete and accurate lactation assessment on assigned patients, documenting according to lactation standards.
Identifies changes/problems in breastfeeding/lactation and intervenes promptly and appropriately according to lactation standards. Reports changes to appropriate health care providers.
Plans comprehensive lactation intervention and guidance based on assessments to assigned patients according to written lactation standards. Assessments, plans, interventions, evaluations and patient education are reflected in plan of care. Documents and communicates outcomes of identified patient problems to appropriate healthcare providers.
Maintains knowledge of current lactation interventions, equipment, theories and research.
Provides assistance to mothers and their babies who have complex or multiple risk factors that could to or cause problems with breastfeeding/lactation.
Assists with collection and transcription of lactation related data.
Functions as team member in support of the outpatient lactation center, including handling of telephone support, outpatient consultations, education and instruction in lactation care equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing: Associate's Degree in Nursing or higher is required
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state which you practice and/or hold an active Compact/Multi-State RN license
A current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider is required
Neonate Resuscitate (NRP) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Certified Lactation Consultant/Educator is required
(IBCLC) International Board Certified Lactation Consultant is strongly preferred
A minimum of one year maternal newborn nursing experience or one year lactation consulting experience is required
This is a WEEKENDS ONLY, Part Time position. Every Saturday/Sunday, 8 hour shifts.
