Position Overview
Clinician – 4D Med Surg Unit – Full‑time – UPMC Chautauqua.
About the Unit 4D is a 30‑bed Medical/Surgical unit with pediatric admissions, offering postoperative adult care and a range of medical conditions. The unit manages orthopedic, bariatric, urological, and other general surgeries, providing wound care including wound vacs in a fast‑paced environment staffed by dedicated nurses.
Role Summary The Clinician is a nurse leader responsible for fostering a culture of excellence and patient care, serving as a role model, and delivering direct nursing support when required.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain productive relationships internally and externally, mentoring colleagues and addressing workplace issues.
Leverage performance‑improvement tools to continuously enhance quality of care and the work environment.
Advocate for the development of others through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing; act as preceptor for students and nurses.
Incorporate national professional organizations and health‑system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
Apply nursing knowledge within a Relationship‑Based Care framework, performing critical thinking and ensuring comprehensive documentation.
Lead clinical nursing practice, identify improvement opportunities, and drive change processes; support staff during transitions.
Participate in quality‑improvement, evidence‑based practice, new‑hire onboarding, and staff performance evaluations as appropriate.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of nursing experience; BS/BSN required; Master’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse with knowledge of growth and development across the life span.
Ability to establish positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, ancillary staff, and patients/families.
Strong clinical judgment, critical‑thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
Current registered RN license in the state of practice.
CPR required within 30 days of hire; PALS within one year.
New York SCR application required within the first week of hire.
Additional credentials: BLS/CPR, PALS, RN, NYSEL, NYSCR.
