Job Description
The Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part‑time faculty member teaching courses in the Chemistry Program. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.
Montgomery College accepts applications for Adjunct/Part‑time Faculty on a continuous basis. Applications may be reviewed periodically based on the student enrollment needs.
Scope and Limits
Listing of a course as “TBA” does not constitute an assignment.
The hiring decision involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.
During the academic year, part‑time faculty may teach no more than 11.5 ESH per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
During summer, part‑time faculty may teach no more than 10 ESH for both sessions combined.
Duties
Teach lectures, discussion sections, and labs in Introductory Chemistry, Chemistry for Engineers, and Organic Chemistry.
Submit midterm and final grades via an electronic information management system.
Design and grade examinations and other graded work.
Enforce and adhere to laboratory safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Chemistry or appropriate equivalent (required).
Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening, or weekend sections as needed.
Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence and willingness to contribute to the College’s strategic plan of inclusion.
Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location. The College provides an e‑mail account, learning platform, password‑protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the College may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in Chemistry (preferred).
At least one year of experience teaching at the community college level.
Experience teaching college‑level chemistry courses.
Additional Requirements For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
