Registered Dietitian – Bariatric Surgery (24 hours/week) We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Registered Dietitian (RD) to join our dedicated team. The RD will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, individualized nutritional care to patients with obesity before and after bariatric surgery.

Responsibilities

Assess nutritional needs and identify nutrition‑related problems.

Collect and interpret patient data including history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, and physical findings.

Determine nutrition diagnosis and develop personalized care plans.

Implement nutrition interventions such as meals, supplements, enteral or parenteral nutrition, education, and counseling.

Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care as needed.

Ensure appropriate food tolerances and consistencies.

Collaborate with the healthcare team as a consultant and inform the team of advances in diet therapy, unusual lab results, and other pertinent facts.

Educate patients, families, and staff on nutrition and special diets to be followed during and after hospitalization.

Maintain documentation in the patient’s medical record, including Plan of Care, Nutrition Flowsheets, education records, after‑visit summaries, and handoffs.

Develop and conduct in‑service classes, community education, and other health and nutrition offerings as requested or assigned.

Participate in special projects and committees related to the nutritional care of patients.

Maintain and enhance professional expertise through educational and organizational activities.

Supervise dietetic interns/students, orient them to the profession, and provide clinical teaching, precepting, and mentoring throughout their program.

Act as a liaison with the department of culinary wellness, both patient foodservice and retail foodservice, to address patient, employee, visitor, or staff needs.

Demonstrate professional characteristics and ethics by adhering to department and organizational policy and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge and skills in the field of expertise.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or a related field that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (approved Baccalaureate program and accredited advanced training).

Master’s degree or Advanced Practice Certification preferred.

Professional knowledge of chemistry, physiology, caloric and nutrient values, and the physical properties of foodstuffs with an understanding of medical nutrition therapy.

Ability to read, write, and speak English; use and understand medical terminology; follow oral and written instructions; perform arithmetic calculations.

Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

High level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.

Experience in bariatric and weight management.

Certification & Licensure

Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
