Join the City University of New York as a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience. The appointment starts August 2026 and is part of a strategic initiative to expand interdisciplinary research and training in neuroscience and computational sciences. Overview
The ideal candidate will conduct research that integrates computational approaches with empirical neuroscience to investigate the mechanisms underlying cognition.
The position is housed in the M.S. Program in Cognitive Neuroscience, with teaching duties including courses in computational methods and advanced neuroscience. Responsibilities
Generate an active, externally funded research program that advances understanding of perception, cognition, and behavior. Teach graduate courses in cognitive neuroscience, computational methods, and statistics. Mentor graduate students in a diverse and inclusive academic environment. Participate in committee and departmental assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. Simons Foundation Visiting Scholar Component
Applicants must also apply to the Center for Computational Neuroscience (CCN) at the Flatiron Institute.
The joint appointment combines a 50% teaching load at the Graduate Center with a 50% research appointment at CCN; teaching relief and access to Flatiron resources will be provided. Essential Functions
Conduct research in computational neuroscience, building models that are motivated by fundamental principles. Publish research in refereed journals and present at scientific conferences. Provide publicly available software and support public use of software. Mentor graduate students and organize summer programs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Physics, Math, Engineering, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or Computer Science. Strong record of scientific publication and external funding. Expertise in computational modeling, machine learning, or data science applied to cognitive neuroscience. Experience in cross‑species research or human language is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring at the graduate level. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
