Clerk III-Orthopedics, Main Campus
We are looking for a full‑time, customer‑focused Clerk III for the Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Department at University of Iowa Health Care Main Campus. This role is integral to maintaining efficient front‑line operations within a high‑volume, dynamic clinic environment.
As a Clerk III, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing exceptional front desk reception services. Key responsibilities include managing check‑in/check‑out, scheduling clinic appointments, operating multi‑line phone systems, and assisting both internal and external customers.
Primary Job Duties
Schedule outpatient appointments and coordinate clinic appointments with diagnostic tests, ancillary services, or other departments.
Complete check‑in process in an outpatient clinic, including obtaining patient demographics, payer information, co‑payment, and outside imaging; facilitate patient flow and maintain communication with clinical staff.
Contact patients via phone to schedule outpatient clinic appointments.
Maintain phone coverage for clinic scheduling; answer, transfer, and manage phone system adhering to phone management standards.
Process and manage incoming referrals, medical records, related documentation, and external imaging.
Act as intermediary between patients and Nursing, Advanced Practice Providers, and Faculty offices regarding scheduling concerns and medical needs.
Use computers, the Epic medical records system, and various software and office equipment.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Any combination of related clerical office experience, undergraduate education, and/or post‑high‑school clerical training equivalent to two years of full‑time employment.
Desirable Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Customer service skills with patient‑facing experience.
Experience working on computers and navigating multiple systems.
Hospital and/or medical patient scheduling experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Experience working in a healthcare environment using a medical records system.
