We are seeking a Certified

Medical Assistant (MA)

who will have duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

Complete Medicare Wellness Questionnaire as well as other questionnaires in EPIC.

Assist Clinical RN with ED discharge calls when necessary.

Complete prior-authorizations for medications.

Provide friendly, courteous and confidential assistance to patients and their family members/representatives.

Follow HIPAA guidelines at all times.

Collect patient information and assessment data. Obtain and record patient’s vital signs: temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height. Report assessment findings to practitioner, and record them on appropriate documentation forms in a timely manner. Obtain additional data from patient and significant other based on initial data collection.

Perform chart review prior to clinic visit to obtain historical data, save any forms patient has completed via MyChart, check for metric gaps in care and need for Medicare Wellness Visits and inform providers. Document all data in Epic.

Assist patients to exam room and prepare patients for examination and/or diagnostic procedures. Monitor patient status, recognizing and reporting abnormal findings or changes in condition.

Prepare examination or treatment areas before, during and after patient use.

Maintain and use principles of aseptic technique and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks.

Operate clinical equipment according to equipment procedure, as directed by physician (such as electrocardiograph, nebulizer, blood glucose meters, and oxygen equipment).

Recognize emergency situations, implement emergency procedure according to clinic guidelines, administer first aid including CPR, and maintain emergency equipment and supplies.

Confirm and clarify written orders prior to implementation of delegated tasks.

Prepare and administer medications, which include intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections as directed by a physician.

Perform in-office point of care tests. Follow all approved NIPO guidelines unless directed otherwise by provider.

Provide lab services while phlebotomist is on break. Appropriately obtain and manage specimens, including labeling and laboratory pick up.

Perform quality controls for waived testing. Act as a “trainer” for waived testing, and coordinate activities related to proficiency.

Assist physicians with examinations and procedures such as GYN exams. Chaperone for sensitive exams and record in Epic.

Stock and maintain exam rooms and clinic areas with standard levels of supplies, medications, and equipment. Prepare list of needed supplies and medications for monthly order.

Perform skilled tasks such as venipuncture for the collection of blood specimens, suture removal and wound dressing changes as directed by the physician.

Document tasks performed and nursing care data accurately in the medical record in Epic.

Assist patients in wheelchairs and stretchers with transfers to and from exam tables, procedure tables and scales utilizing proper body mechanics and safety measures.

Perform related and delegated tasks, which include retrieving and processing messages from the prescription refill line, taking and relaying messages, facilitating interaction between patient and provider, working with providers to assure smooth and efficient patient flow, and running errands.

Notify manager and patients of wait times.

Participate in medical education of patients and families as directed by provider and provide patient instruction for medication administration, diagnostic tests, specimen collection and methods of health promotion and disease prevention.

Obtain and provide health information for patient use as requested by the physician.

Assist with orientation of new and/or agency staff members. Participate in the clinic's quality assurance programs and committees.

Ensure that needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed and removed from the clinic and exam area according to the infection control guidelines.

Perform minor housekeeping tasks to keep clinic areas clean and safe.

Maintain Clorox and germicidal solutions in clinic for emergency cleanups, etc.

Check clinic area and rooms for malfunctioning equipment and general maintenance problems on a regular basis. Report findings to supervisor or arrange for repairs as required in the absence of the supervisor.

Participate in skill development and training through in-service programs to enhance knowledge level and to ensure mastery of patient care procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

The Medical Assistant must possess the necessary skills to assist the provider with the day-to-day activities of patient care.

The Medical Assistant must be able to perform phlebotomy, give injections, use equipment found in a medical setting, perform vitals, and assist the provider with procedures, as well document in the medical record and verify that the billing sheet has been completed for all procedures completed by the lab staff.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or graduation equivalent.

Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP). If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/registered within 180 days (6 months) of date of hire.

Current certification in CPR.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using EPIC

One year in an outpatient medical setting or hospital clinic

Starting Salary Range: $15.40 - $23.25 HRLY ($46,800 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30a - 5:00p
