About Meals on Wheels of Mercer County Meals on Wheels of Mercer County (MOWMC) supports the health, well-being, and independence of seniors and individuals in need by delivering nutritious meals and friendly visits. Volunteers are central to our mission, and we are seeking a strategic, relationship-driven leader to strengthen, grow, and support this essential workforce.
Position Summary The Volunteer Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and daily management of MOWMC’s volunteer program. This role oversees the full volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, training, retention, and recognition, ensuring a high-quality volunteer experience aligned with organizational goals. The Director also leads community outreach efforts to expand and diversify the volunteer base by cultivating partnerships with local businesses, schools, faith‑based groups, and community organizations, and by representing MOWMC at public events and speaking engagements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies to recruit a diverse and reliable volunteer workforce.
Build and maintain partnerships with community groups, schools, faith‑based organizations, and local employers.
Represent MOWMC at community events, volunteer fairs, and public speaking engagements to promote volunteer opportunities.
Design and manage volunteer appreciation and recognition programs.
Gather volunteer feedback, identify trends, and implement improvements to enhance engagement and satisfaction.
Training & Supervision
Oversee onboarding and training to ensure volunteers are prepared, safe, and aligned with service standards.
Develop training materials, manuals, and resources.
Address volunteer concerns, support conflict resolution, and ensure adherence to organizational policies.
Program Management & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, assignments, and compliance.
Monitor engagement metrics and prepare regular reports for leadership.
Work with program staff to forecast volunteer needs and coordinate scheduling.
Leadership & Strategic Planning
Develop long‑term volunteer engagement strategies to support organizational growth.
Supervise volunteer coordinators or support staff, when applicable.
Stay current with best practices in volunteer management and integrate them into program improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, social work, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in volunteer management, community outreach, or nonprofit leadership.
Proven success recruiting, managing, and retaining large and diverse volunteer groups.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
Strong organizational, project management, and problem‑solving abilities.
Availability for occasional evenings and weekends.
Experience with volunteer management software and data systems.
