School Summary Colorado Connections Academy (ColoCA) schools are tuition‑free, online public schools serving students throughout the state. Colorado Connections Academy @ Mapleton as well as ColoCA @ Durango, serve students in grades K‑12 statewide, and are operated by the Mapleton Public Schools and Durango Public Schools through a contract with Connections Education, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, as are Colorado Connections Academy @ Mapleton and Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango.
Position Summary And Responsibilities Working from the office in Englewood, Durango or at home, the K‑8 Assistant Principal will help manage staff as they consult regularly with Learning Coaches and students, ensuring that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program. The Assistant Principal is responsible for working with parents, students, support staff, and certified teachers who “virtually” facilitate a home‑based student instructional program. The position will spend the majority of its time working with stakeholders on matters of policy, academic outcomes, reporting, and supervision. The Assistant Principal will report to and work with the School Leader.
Other Key Responsibilities
Deliver the academic success and outcomes of the school, based on a list of annual school goals which may include the school’s goals to improve student academic achievement, Connections Academy school focus goals, the framework goals, and the accountability score on the State Report Card; oversee the implementation of the proven school curriculum and school operation protocols.
Ensure that staff exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support, and customer service by implementing a mission for the school.
Ensure all state reporting is completed correctly and on time.
Exhibit high quality, timely communication with all school staff, students, and families; comfortable taking on a leadership role.
Able to see the big picture.
Service‑oriented.
Skilled in identifying problems and brainstorming potential solutions.
Excellent at written and oral communication as well as presentation.
Work closely with appropriate Legal Counsel as needed.
Act as a state‑trained procurement officer for the school.
Work closely with Assistant Principals and POBL staff to implement the core operational model.
Work with administrative team to implement any program changes, processes and procedures, and/or new software application introductions.
Handle any student, parent or teacher issues escalated from other stakeholders.
Act as one of the “faces of the school” at school events and with the Department of Education, which could include testimony.
Build a high‑performing leadership team to oversee school staff and the school itself.
Supervise and evaluate all school staff as required by the state.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Active Administrator Endorsement/License required.
Must reside in Colorado.
Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to goal‑directed management and accountability.
Bachelor’s and master’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Customer‑focused approach.
Flexible, able to transition from task to task quickly.
Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment.
Team player.
Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite).
Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two‑step authentication.
