Night Program for RNs

Night shift RNs may receive an additional $2/hour on top of the off‑shift differential for hours worked within the night program guidelines.

Must have completed the orientation period and have at least 6 months of registered nurse experience to participate.

GNs will have the option to move into the night program once these qualifications are met.

About UPMC Magee Women’s Birthing Center (T9) T9 is a 22‑bed multidisciplinary unit with its own triage and operating rooms. Patients labor, give birth, recover, and have their postpartum stay in the same unit, promoting continuity of care and skin‑to‑skin contact. The unit also includes a 4‑bed triage area for maternal monitoring and a 8‑bed special care nursery for neonates 35 weeks and greater.

How We Support Our Nurses

Competitive wages:

$31.50 (BSN)

$30.00 (non‑BSN)

Shift differential: $2.00

Title and salary determined based on education and experience.

Generous sign‑on bonus

– Up to $15,000 available for nurses with 1 or more years of experience. Candidates will need to make a two‑year work commitment.

UPMC’s monthly loan repayment program – Graduates may receive a $15,000 student loan repayment bonus paid out over 3 years.

We provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process and leadership for the nursing team. You will also contribute to education of staff and students.

Responsibilities Patient Care

Provide direct care: Use nursing protocols and standards to perform and document procedures safely. Administer medications and IV therapy following policy.

Assess and reassess: Evaluate and document patient and family needs, reassessing patients every eight hours or as needed.

Plan care: Involve patients and families in creating care plans, prioritize needs, conduct care conferences, and maintain up‑to‑date plans. Coordinate with community agencies and other professionals.

Coordination and Communication

Engage in team discussions: Work with medical staff to discuss and develop patient care plans.

Utilize systems: Use Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and other relevant computer systems efficiently.

Education and Leadership

Teach and educate: Initiate health teaching for patients and families based on their needs. Contribute to the education of staff and students.

Consult and lead: Offer guidance and support to other healthcare team members and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.

Safety and Compliance

Follow precautions: Adhere to universal precautions and occupational exposure policies. Identify and address potential problems and environmental factors affecting patient care.

Maintain competency: Complete annual competency validation and stay proficient in point‑of‑care testing per lab criteria.

Registered nursing experience preferred but not required.

For graduate nurses, patient care support experience preferred.

Education and Formal Training Required

Must hold a current license to practice nursing in Pennsylvania. Must satisfactorily complete the nursing department’s orientation program and probationary period.

Must complete NIHSS education prior to end of orientation if required.

When Assigned to LDRP

One year hospital nursing/LDRP‑Nursery preferred.

ACLS and Neonatal Resuscitation preferred or must be obtained within 12 months; BLS required.

Must complete Trauma Nurse Course and Fetal Monitoring Course within two years.

Must complete Stable Course within one year.

Must maintain six trauma competencies per year.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required within 30 days of hire.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Registered Nurse (RN)

Act 33 renewal

Act 34 renewal

Act 73 FBI clearance renewal

Current licensure in Pennsylvania or NLC state. Out‑of‑state NLC license holders who change residency must apply within 60 days.
