As a Resident Associate, you will assist seniors who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need 24hour oversight. The Resident Associates role is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help; fostering at all times residents independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of assisted living.
Responsibilities
Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), including transferring, mobility, dressing and undressing, bathing, personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail care, hair care, feet care), and use of mobility devices.
Assist residents with Instrumental ADL, including telephone use, housekeeping (vacuuming, trash removal, cleaning, bed making, laundry), escorting and coordinating internal transportation, mail delivery and personal correspondence.
Assist with self-administration of medications, including monitoring supplies and documentation.
Observe and promptly report changes in resident physical condition and cognitive or emotional status to the licensed nurse or supervisor.
Conduct resident rounds and room checks, monitor environmental safety hazards, and record incidents, errors, accidents, and resident-to-resident-related events.
Respond to and act in accordance with established procedures in emergency or disaster situations.
Follow up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
Qualifications
Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with seniors is desirable.
Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid certifications.
Demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents, as well as an understanding of the aging process.
Work collaboratively with peers and other team members, and use tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally-charged situations.
Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English, and plan and complete duties with minimal direction.
Possess excellent customer service skills, be self-motivated, work independently, recognize facility needs, and be able to deal effectively with assisted living residents and family members, senior staff, and all Blue Skies departments and guests.
