Registered Medical Assistant – Smilow Cancer Hospital Smilow Cancer Hospital invites qualified candidates to apply for the Registered Medical Assistant position in the YNHHS system. Responsibilities

Patient Care Responsibilities

– Assist physicians/providers with patient care, rooming patients, and performing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks; conduct vital sign measurements, specimen collection, and documentation in EPIC; screen patients and assist with procedures; provide instructions and referrals to patients and families.

Administrative Responsibilities

– Send and receive patient medical records, abstract new records into EPIC, obtain lab/radiology reports, complete requisitions, and perform front‑desk duties such as greeting patients, answering calls, scheduling appointments, and scanning records.

Environmental Responsibilities

– Prepare instruments and equipment per protocol, maintain infection control procedures, clean exam rooms and equipment, and manage supplies and sterilizer maintenance.

Organizational Duties

– Maintain patient confidentiality; ensure accurate billing submissions; stay current on practice policy, HIPAA, coding, and regulatory requirements; address urgent patient issues; collaborate on quality improvement, patient‑centered initiatives, and community health programs.

Other Duties

– May assist with chaperone duties for procedures and perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications Education

– High school diploma or equivalent required. Must meet one of: graduate of an accredited medical assistant (MA) program, certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), or paramedic. Experience or competencies may satisfy requirements in case of mergers or acquisitions.

Experience

– Minimum one (1) year as an MA, CNA, EMT, ACA, PCA/PCT, paramedic, or phlebotomist. New graduates from an accredited MA program with less than one year of experience will be considered.

Licensure

– Preference for certification/register (CCMA/CMA/AAMA/RMA) and Basic Life Support (BLS). Certification may replace MA school graduation.
