Position Summary: The group of Dr. Han Xiao at Rice University is looking for Postdoctoral Research Associates with experience in cell and protein engineering to join this project. The focus of our research is the development of innovative chemical tools that allow us to understand complex biological systems as well as develop novel therapeutic strategies.
Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree in chemistry, biology, bioengineering, or related fields.
Knowledge of modern research concepts and principles of biological systems and data collection/analyses, including mammalian cell culture, microscopy, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, and transfection.
Ability to purify/characterize enzymes/antibodies and isolate/analyze DNA, RNA, proteins.
Skilled in genome sequencing and editing and directed evolution techniques.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience: Experience in medicinal chemistry, biomedical imaging, cancer biology and translational research, protein and cell engineering.
Essential Functions: Maintain bacterial/mammalian cells and perform biomolecular purification. Perform molecular cloning and develop novel strategies for enhancing targeted therapy. Mentor and oversee junior research team members. Publish and present research findings. Provide academic services as required.
Workplace Requirements: Full‑time in‑person position in Houston, Texas. Travel outside Rice University not required; candidate encouraged to attend at least one scientific conference. Position funded by grant; continued employment contingent on funding renewal.
