Overview Faculty - Biology Instructor role at Muskegon Community College. Position begins Summer/Fall 2026. Annual load: 34.

General Description Responsible for instruction and facilitating student learning; committed to student recruitment, retention and success; assessment of learning, development of curriculum and use of instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology. Contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to student success.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned course load, which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers.

Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.

Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline.

Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to student learning.

Develop or assist in development of curriculum including review or revision to keep programs on the cutting edge.

Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, return graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assign final grades for all students, meeting or exceeding all institutional deadlines for completion.

Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted times (i.e., conference hours) or by appointment.

Collaborate with outside universities and institutions to promote and expand educational opportunities.

Ensure student opinion surveys are conducted for each class and reviewed after summary information is available to assist with increasing student success.

Participate in the instructor evaluation process.

Non‑teaching duties: committee work, student organizations, governing councils, departmental or college support, mentoring new or part‑time colleagues.

Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Biology or a closely related field and 18 or more graduate credits in Biology with a minimum of two years’ relevant teaching experience preferably in higher education with emphases in anatomy & physiology, microbiology, and biology.

Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, across multiple audiences.

Successful teaching experience and commitment to working with a varying population of students and staff.

A passion for continuous learning and a dedication to support student success through the mission of the College.

Ability to facilitate varied teaching methods (lecture, discussion, assessment, presentations, field work, laboratory).

Online teaching experience or willingness to complete online teaching training.

Willingness to teach during the day, at night, and online, as well as at the main campus and extension centers.

Experience in educational theory and techniques; teaching experience at the post‑secondary level preferred.

Participation in professional and community organizations.

Detail‑oriented, well organized, and able to interact effectively with college staff at all levels and handle confidential information appropriately.

Highly motivated and solution‑oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the College.

Demonstrated ability to work with various populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
