Summary
This position cares for patients before, during and after angiography, interventional, angiographic cardiac catheterization procedures. Responsibilities include pre‑procedure assessment, pre‑medication, documentation of cath process, post‑cath care, patient education. The RN scrubs in for procedures and assists other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Responsibilities
Performs nursing care of the catheterization/angiography patient.
Operates equipment (cardiac output, hemodynamic monitoring, pacemakers/ICDs, intraaortic balloon pump, etc.), transfers patients, stocks supplies, and performs basic office procedures.
Scrubs in for procedures with the physician.
Records all pertinent information on appropriate data sheets.
Assists in other radiology/cardiology procedures as needed.
Performs clinical functions as required.
Must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows; may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
Qualifications
Credential:
ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required within 1 month of hire or transfer).
Credential:
BLS: Basic Life Support (required within 1 month of hire or transfer).
Credential:
RN: Registered Nurse (required).
Education Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience & Training
Knowledge of critical care nursing typically gained through 2-year experience in a Medical Center or similar setting.
Electrophysiology skills acquired through a minimum of 1 year experience working in the electrophysiology lab environment.
Interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels.
Knowledge and operation of intraaortic balloon pump.
Physical & Mental Requirements Exposure to stressful situations (public contact, trauma, grief, death). Must wear personal protective equipment. Able to move freely in the facility, perform job functions. Must be able to sit/stand/walk for long periods; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and stay awake. Requires dexterity (handling, reaching, grasping). Physical demand level: Medium. Must occasionally lift or carry 21–50 lbs (0‑33% of workday), frequently 20 lbs (34‑66%), and constantly 10 lbs (67‑100%).
