A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Section of Molecular Hematology & Therapy, Department of Leukemia at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center under the mentorship of Michael Andreeff, MD, Ph.D.
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual with advanced clinical experience in hematologic malignancies and technical expertise in cell, molecular, or cancer biology to lead a project focused on developing new analytical modalities for identifying novel vulnerabilities and creating hypothesis‑driven, mechanism‑based molecular targeting strategies for drug‑resistant leukemias.
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research on cell death and cell survival pathways, as well as mechanisms of drug resistance in myeloid leukemia stem cells, through a combinatorial study using molecular biology methodologies. These include gene editing, mutation detection, gene and protein expression analysis, chromatin accessibility profiling, and evaluation of responses to drug treatments in both in vitro and in vivo leukemia cell systems. The goal is to broaden understanding of cell death regulators, signaling pathways, and leukemia microenvironmental factors, clarify their roles in drug resistance, and develop a mechanism‑based approach to overcome therapeutic resistance.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Learning Objectives
Collaborate with established investigators in an interdisciplinary project involving cell culture, flow cytometry, mass cytometry, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, RT‑PCR, DNA/RNA sequencing, and patient‑derived xenograft leukemia and murine leukemia models using animals.
Write reports of scientific results and present findings in project meetings, national and international conferences, and high‑impact scientific publications.
Eligibility Requirements
Recently graduated physician‑scientist with an M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree, possessing expertise in cell, molecular, and cancer biology, along with a strong practical background and comprehensive knowledge of cell death pathways and cell signaling.
Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including cell culture, drug treatment, cell death assays, molecular cloning, flow cytometry, and/or experience with murine models of leukemia. Data analytic skills using innovative analytical approaches are highly desirable.
Enjoy providing practical and theoretical training to students, foster scientific collaboration within the research group, and exhibit excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
One or more first‑author publications in high‑impact, peer‑reviewed journals in the field of hematology.
Position Information MD Anderson offers full‑time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000, depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
