Required License/Registration/Certification:

Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments is possible.

Shift Must work two 12‑hour night shifts from 7 pm to 7:30 am every Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, totaling 24 hours per week. Pay is for 36 hours per week as part of the weekend premium position (WEPP).

Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Chandler 5 Main Acute Care area at UK Chandler Hospital provide care to adult patients with a wide range of medical/surgical conditions. The unit delivers acute, comprehensive inpatient care, and the RN serves as a key member of the medical team responsible for diagnoses, treatments, and patient outcomes. Primary responsibilities include assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating comprehensive nursing care plans; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to University policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Ideal candidates possess knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns framework, and Swanson’s Caring model. They demonstrate superb direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills, basic computer navigation, professional communication, strong organization, prioritization, delegation, and the ability to work effectively in both team and independent settings.

Preferred Education/Experience BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience preferred.
