Job Description Job Summary
The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides advanced care to patients transitioning from intensive to general care. The PCU RN monitors patient status, administers medications, and responds to changing patient conditions to ensure a safe and effective recovery.
Special Information Must Have :
Step‑down Experience

Required Certifications NHISS and TNCC
Floating Area(s) All inpatient units including ICU, ED
Key Responsibilities
Review patient charts, medication plans, and test results upon admission to the PCU.
Continuously monitor vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
Interpret data from specialized equipment to assess and respond to patient conditions.
Administer and adjust medications, including dosage titration as prescribed.
Perform diagnostic assessments and interventions based on patient changes.
Report signs of patient deterioration and follow intervention protocols.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and medical charts.
Supervise nursing assistants and support staff within the PCU.
Communicate medical treatments and procedures to patients and families, addressing any questions or concerns.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (ASN/BSN).
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant nursing role.
Certifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state or compact).
