The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for participating in and supervising crews engaged in surveying projects for clients of the organization.The Survey Crew Chief works directly with the Field Production Manager to collect data that will be used to prepare maps, plats, and engineering design files as well as working on various phases of projects from initial survey control, to staking new structures, and collecting as-built data.Providing a final quality control check on all completed projects is an important responsibility of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Establishes and m aintains working relationships with other e m ployees, clients, contractors, and the general public
Serves as CERM’s field representative to property owners when perfor m i ng surveys on private property and along public rights-of-way
Perfor ms engineering design and as-built surveys, to include the collection of horizontal and vertical data of natural and man-made features, and providing detailed sketches of appropriate structures
Performs construction-based surveys, to include establishing horizontal and vertical control networks, checking and staking required items from office-prepared calculations, performing field calculations from engineering plans
Performs route surveys, to include right-of-way location, profiles, and cross-sections
Performs boundary/ALTA surveys, to include the collection of all data needed to establish boundary lines and easements
Performs utility surveys, to include locating utilities as per field evidence or per UPC/utility locator service markings, and obtaining invert, pipe size and material of various structures.
Researches existing maps, plans, deeds, and plats
Coordinates field activities with Field Production Manager, Project Manager, and other key personnel for schedules and project-specific requirements
Downloads data collector files, provides copies of relevant field notes and sketches.
Reviews finished survey with Field Production Manager, Project Manager, and other key personnel for accuracy
Trains and directs the survey party in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner for the assigned task, to include providing a log of crew activities, and maintaining safety/clearance/security badges for field crew members
Computes angles, distances, grades, etc. from maps, plans, layout sheets, and coordinate lists.
Uses conventional total station and level, digital level, GPS unit, and data collector, to include appropriate field checks and adjustments
Operates, organizes, and keeps track of maintenance of a company vehicle.
Attends work on a regular, dependable schedule

Required Skills KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Extensive knowledge of and training in survey procedures and use of survey equipment, safety equipment, and other miscellaneous tools and equipment
Experience with Robotic Total Stations and RTK/GPS equipment, specifically Trimble and Leica units, with TDS, Leica, and Carleson Data Collectors and software
Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD, and other surveying and office software
Ability to pass drug screening and security/background checks, as may be required.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients of the company
Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions
Ability to meet deadlines while working under stress and handling stressful situations
Required Experience MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
5 years of experience in surveying including three years (3) of progressively responsible experience with a survey crew
Experience with Robotic Total Stations and RTK/GPS equipment, specifically Trimble and Leica units, with TDS, Leica, and Carleson Data Collectors and software
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associates Degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with course work in advanced mathematics including algebra and trigonometry drawing and drafting, is desirable
AutoCAD/Micro-station Inroads experience is a plus
DOT experience is preferred
LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Georgia driver’s license with acceptable driving record for the past three years
Registration as a Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT)/ Georgia Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) is desirable, but not required
Certification as a Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission Level 1A/1B Inspector or Level 2 Design Professional is desirable, but not required
OSHA HAZWOPER certification is desirable, but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must regular lift/ move up to 25 pounds and infrequently lift/ move up to 50 pounds
Must be able to walk several miles in extreme weather conditions
Stand, walk, use of hand finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
Reach with hands and arms
Talk and hear
Sit, climb/ balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Regularly works in varying outside weather conditions where noise levels can be loud
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes and airborne particles§
