Water / Wastewater Project Manager Position Summary The Project Manager for Water Resources plays a key role in advancing sustainable water solutions for the communities BENEN serves. In this leadership-driven position, you will guide the planning, design, and delivery of water supply, wastewater, and water infrastructure projects for public agencies and utility clients, while helping shape the technical excellence and direction of BENEN’s Water Resources practice.

You will leverage your expertise in water and wastewater engineering to lead multidisciplinary teams from early planning and analysis through final design and implementation. Your work will directly support resilient, efficient, and reliable water systems—ensuring regulatory compliance, technical quality, and long‑term community value.

As a Project Manager, you will oversee the core deliverables that define successful projects, including technical analyses, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates. You will coordinate project teams, manage scope, schedule, and budget, mentor staff, and collaborate closely with clients and regulatory agencies to maintain strong partnerships and deliver practical, innovative engineering solutions.

Essential Responsibilities Internal Focus

Provide technical leadership, planning direction, and rigorous QA/QC oversight for water and wastewater design projects.

Ensure all project work adheres to federal, state, and local standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.

Manage subconsultants and coordinate deliverables

Mentor Engineers, Designers, and Technicians, strengthening their skills in design fundamentals, problem‑solving, and project delivery.

Project and Staff Focus

Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and documentation to ensure successful and predictable outcomes.

Assign, coordinate, and support work across interdisciplinary teams to maintain project momentum and alignment.

Oversee the production of plans, specifications, reports, technical analyses, and cost estimates.

Manage subconsultants, ensuring their deliverables integrate seamlessly into project objectives.

Monitor project progress and financial performance, proactively addressing risks and challenges.

External and Client Focus

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects, ensuring clear communication and high client satisfaction.

Lead project meetings, facilitate progress discussions, and guide issue resolution to keep projects moving forward.

Support client relationships through responsiveness, reliability, and strong technical insight.

Collaborate with public agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure compliant and coordinated project delivery.

Help strengthen relationships with clients and private‑sector partners by fostering trust and responsiveness.

Business Development Focus

Prepare and contribute to proposal development, including narrative writing, scope definition, and fee support.

Identify opportunities for additional work within existing client accounts and help position the team for future projects.

Engage in industry events, conferences, and professional organizations to build the firm’s presence and support strategic growth.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

10 years of experience in water/wastewater design and project engineering.

3 years of related project management and/or team leadership experience and training.

Familiarity with technical modeling or design software (HEC‑RAS, Civil 3D, etc.).

Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.

Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).

Compensation Salary aligned with mid‑to‑senior project management responsibilities. $140,000 – $175,000
