Job Responsibilities
Develop Vehicle/Machine level controls requirements and validation strategies for Large Mining Trucks. Primarily, Diesel Electric and Battery Electric NPI programs that require new strategies are the focus. Control logics can range from critical machine efficiency/operation logics to strategies supporting integration of various technology options. Position requires critical thinking and understanding of interactions of various sub-systems.
Hands on ability to validate / fine tune control strategies using SIL, HIL and MIL would be beneficial. On machine testing/tuning may be required.
Work with LMT Controls lead, Program technical lead, SW coordinator and other controls engineers to develop requirements for various machine level controls and SW features.
Review current production machine control logics and SW specs to understand changes required for new machine and document the same in the requirements specifications.
Hold meetings with key technical personnel, as needed, to review the control specs and get alignment.
Drive commonality and hardware and SW between various machine platforms with documentation of tradeoffs and benefits.
Perform SIL, HIL, MIL simulations as needed to find tune or validate the control logics.
Develop thorough and efficient system and machine level validation plans (SIL/HIL/OnMachine,etc) to ensure machine functionality is defect free under all operating and environmental conditions in the field.
Inquire and document technology road maps and future attachment options to ensure necessary provisions are included in the scope of controls and SW requirements.
Support field follow validation for the new control logics via data analytics plan.
Provide necessary support to resolve the filed issues quickly by working with various subsystem and component level controls and SW teams.
Education & Experience
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering, Physics, CS or related field, and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in this capacity is required.
Required Skills
Controls software development and/or testing experience.
Machine/Vehicle level engineering experience, preferably in machine performance, controls, testing or simulation areas (one or more).
Familiarity with Mining Trucks operation and the application.
Experience with machine controls, software, testing and simulation methods.
Knowledge of Large Mining Trucks and Off Highway trucks. (Preferably at machine level or system integration level).
Expertise in machine performance, controls and software development.
Some expertise in our organization’s Dynasty tool.
Some understanding of truck applications.
Some understanding of autonomous operations.
Soft Skills
