The Registered Nurse (RN) Float coordinates patient care delivery by the health care team using the BSWH nursing professional practice model. The RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements a plan of care, and evaluates patient response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by applying knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, the patient’s condition, and the competencies of the employee. Essential Functions
Clinical Judgment: Conduct accurate assessments, identify and prioritize needs, develop and evaluate plans, and modify plans to meet outcomes. Clinical Inquiry: Systematically evaluate nursing practice quality and effectiveness, support evidence‑based practice changes, and participate in quality/performance improvement initiatives. Caring Practices: Create a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff. Response to Diversity: Recognize, appreciate, and incorporate a patient’s and family’s unique differences into individualized plans of care. Advocacy and Moral Agency: Preserve and protect confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families and represent their concerns. Facilitation of Learning: Facilitate learning for patients, families, staff, and community and integrate appropriate education throughout the continuum of care. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues and community to develop integrated plans of care. Systems Thinking: Use strategies and available resources for problem‑solving for patients, families, and staff. Professionalism: Improve nursing practice and the work environment through shared governance and decision‑making processes and recognize the contributions of others, participate in staffing processes, and commit to ongoing professional growth through continuing education, networking, and professional certification or advanced degrees. Key Success Factors
Knowledge of nursing standards, laws, regulations, and hospital protocols; medical terminology and nursing ethics; clear communication; interpersonal skills; critical thinking and problem‑solving; ability to observe and communicate changes in medical condition; ability to provide age‑specific, quality, patient‑centered care; general computer skills, including Microsoft Office, scheduling and payroll systems, EMR, and email. Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited nursing program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification. EXPERIENCE: 1 year of experience. CERTIFICATION: Registered Nurse (RN). BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer. Benefits Summary
