Job Description American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring NE or compact licensure, night shifts, and the ability to circulate in the OR.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital on a Level 1 Trauma Labor & Delivery unit
Unit includes 16 labor rooms, 9 antepartum rooms, 7 triage beds, 3 OR suites, and 36 postpartum beds
Patient population includes high-risk OB and routine obstetric care
Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1-2 labors, 1:2-3 antepartum
RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications
Electronic charting with Epic; EFM system is Obix
Night shifts are 12 hours (1830-0700); required to work every third weekend, but could be up to every other weekend
Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
Floating to Postpartum and occasional house float as sitter required
Primary responsibilities include care of laboring mothers, circulating for C-sections, and routine newborn care
Must be flexible to float to Postpartum and occasionally function as a sitter within the hospital
Team structure includes 2 OBTs per shift, 24/7 physician and anesthesia coverage, and a charge RN each shift
Surgical scrubs are provided and must comply with the no artificial nails policy; failure to comply is grounds for termination
RNs will receive 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
RTO (requested time off) must be submitted up front, with a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract
Holiday and weekend work is required according to unit needs
First time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
Active NE or compact RN license at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
Minimum of 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
Current BLS, NRP, and Intro to Fetal Monitoring certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
Experience circulating in the OR required
Competency with normal newborn assessments and care required
Must be able to titrate common obstetric drips
Driver's license required to confirm radius eligibility (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
May not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity
