Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU Float Pool position requiring night shift flexibility and strong titratable drip skills.
Responsibilities
Work in the Float Pool covering Med/Surg, Telemetry, and Progressive Care Units (PCU) across multiple hospital campuses
Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post‑cardiac cath, post‑MI, and post‑op CABG patients
Units covered may include inpatient ED holding, stepdown (PCU), and Med/Tele with nurse:patient ratios of 1:4 (PCU) and 1:5‑6 (MedSurg/Tele)
Role involves titrating common drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
Use of Cerner EMR required
Night shifts with 12‑hour length; every other weekend required; first to float across units
RNs notified of daily unit assignment two hours before shift; campuses are 20‑25 minutes apart
Monitor techs support cardiac monitoring, but RNs must interpret strips
CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow equipment used on relevant units
Solid color scrubs required, transitioning to navy in October
Primary responsibilities include delivering direct patient care across MedSurg, Tele, and PCU as assigned
Travelers may be assigned to inpatients holding in the ED as well as to both campus locations
Charge nurses available for each shift and do not take direct patient assignments
Nurse aides are utilized in all care settings
Holiday coverage will be included as part of the regular staff rotation
Orientation comprises a total of 8 hours of facility orientation and two 12‑hour unit shadow shifts
Candidates failing the required dysrhythmia or sterile technique tests will be ineligible for rehire in the region for 6 months
No on‑call or standby requirements for this assignment
Requirements
Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
BLS and ACLS certifications required and must be current
Minimum of 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year in a PCU setting
Experience with titratable drips as listed and comfortable managing complex cardiac patients
Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (Relias) with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
RNs must interpret their own cardiac strips
Must live at least 50 miles from the hospital facility
Cannot have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
Two references required: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years including employment dates and eligibility for rehire
Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
