General Purpose Area Supervisor is a Store Leadership member responsible for a specific store area and overall store operations when acting as Manager on Duty. They open and close the store, supervise associates, maintain a friendly environment, ensure proper merchandise presentation, and execute company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Safety is the number one priority; practices safe behaviors in all activities.
Maintains high awareness on the sales floor and reports unsafe conditions immediately.
Secures building, entrance/exit, EAS devices, cash office, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
Removes clutter and keeps egress clear.
Assures customer safety, accident prevention and reporting, and emergency procedures.
Tests fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times and recognizes associates through company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represents and supports the company brand and dress code.
Maintains store cleanliness and merchandising standards.
Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards and follows up on tasks.
Receives merchandise trucks and processes inbound non‑merchandise deliveries.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.
Helps deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.
Ensures back‑stock is secured, processed, and merchandised per policy.
Prevents loss from damage, follows monthly presentation guidelines, and handles floor moves and promotional signage.
Handles re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
Complies with Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a strong customer service presence.
Demonstrates integrity and protects confidential, cash, card, and merchandise information.
Maintains Public View Monitor system and conducts “Code 50” package inspections.
Implements company best practices and maximizes productivity.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Ensures associates follow front‑end standards and maintains pace.
Trains and coaches associates on cash registers, shortage policies, and front‑end procedures.
Controls associate break schedules.
Ensures equipment works, supplies are stocked, and go‑backs are properly scanned and tagged.
Teaches “Scan and Bag” best practice.
Assesses salability of merchandise on the front end and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
Maintains cleanliness and audits garment tags.
Ensures go‑back compliance and proper scanning, tagging, and ticketing of merchandise.
Administrative Duties (as assigned by Store Manager)
Performs cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.
Handles front‑end controls, refund approvals, and register procedures.
Manages payroll administration, scheduling compliance, and reporting.
Performs other duties as directed.

Use all store equipment (PDTs, registers, PCs)
Stand, walk and move for up to 100% of time
Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, stoop
Occasional push, pull, lift over 25 lb
Operate janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and supplies
Stock‑room shifts may require lifting over 20 lb
