Human Services Assistant – Documents Management Team
Minimum Qualifications

The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is hiring a Human Services Assistant for the Documents Management team to provide critical administrative and customer support for our citizens. While the work is administrative, it directly contributes to the department’s mission of helping individuals and families in the community.
What You Do And How You Do It As a Human Services Assistant, you will support the Administration and Finance Division by handling a high volume of documents—scanning, faxing, filing, and data entry. You will communicate with internal and external customers, process work orders, work in a call center or front desk customer service, troubleshoot and solve issues, and work with a diverse customer base from the County of Chesterfield and the City of Colonial Heights. You may also perform additional tasks as required.
Here’s What You Need
High school diploma with post‑secondary coursework in social work, human services, gerontology, social or behavioral sciences, business or related field. Equivalent combination of training and experience is acceptable.
Knowledge of customer‑service principles and processes for providing personal services.
Some familiarity with regulations, policies, and procedures of the assigned program area.
Proficiency operating a variety of automated office equipment (calculator, fax/copier) and computer‑driven word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and file‑maintenance programs.
We’re Looking For Ideal Candidates Who Have
Excellent organizational, time‑management, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience in office support, administration practices, clerical, and/or direct customer service within social or human services, business or related field.
Relevant work experience in local government or public administration support.
Bilingual in English/Spanish (encouraged).
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Driver records must meet Virginia DMV standards and be dated within thirty days of interview.
Pre‑employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
This position is part of an Emergency Shelter Team during natural disasters, reporting to shelter duty as required.
