The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) is hiring an ACPTC Nurse to provide direct care, treatment, and support to residents adjudicated as sexually violent persons in Arizona.
Job Summary The position delivers court‑ordered services, medical, dental, and behavioral health care, including counseling and medication management. Staff work rotating schedules, may be required on any day, and are responsible for resident care during assigned shifts.
Job Duties
Provide direct psychiatric and medical nursing care to residents; attend group activities and assist with activities of daily living; observe behavior and physical status.
Transcribe doctor’s orders, administer medication, and perform medication counts; perform triage duties with sick call and assist doctor in sick call.
Perform wound care for chronic resident conditions; conduct random UDS and ETOH tests with documentation.
Perform lab draws as required; receive, document, and distribute self‑medications per policy; conduct random medication counts.
Conduct chart reviews and document in resident records; complete nursing assessments, summaries, and other required documentation.
Attend and participate in resident staffing, treatment planning conferences, and doctor’s rounds.
Provide orientation, supervision, and on‑the‑job training to new employees; assist in evaluating job performance; act as a resource for unit employees.
Attend in‑service training to maintain or increase knowledge of leadership, medical‑surgical, and psychiatric nursing updates.
Maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment; keep supplies updated and replenished; assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned (typically 5–10%).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge:
Principles of psychiatric nursing, medical, geriatric, and forensic nursing; nursing process for care plans; psychiatric rehabilitation, pharmacology, infection control; effective communication techniques; hospital/treatment policies and procedures; patient rights; performance improvement; computer proficiency; quality improvement methodologies.
Skills:
Assessment of patient’s physical and mental status; identifying patient needs; communicating with patients, staff, and treatment team; providing therapeutic interventions; educating patients and staff; documenting observations and interventions.
Abilities:
Assess patient status, communicate effectively, provide therapeutic interventions, educate patients and staff, document observations, and support a diverse workforce free from discrimination.
Selective Preferences At least two years of progressive responsibility in a security and/or behavioral health setting, preferably in a mental health care facility, hospital or institutional security, or law enforcement.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Valid, current RN license in Arizona.
CPR and NVCI certification.
State Hospital employees must possess a valid Level 1 fingerprint clearance card per A.R.S. 41‑1758.07.
All newly hired State employees must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
