WRA is seeking a Construction Inspector / Transportation Technician II (TT-2) to join our growing CEI team in North Carolina. The Inspector manages and performs daily construction administration and inspection services for various types of NCDOT and locality transportation projects.
Responsibilities
Perform field observation of contractors’ operations to ensure compliance with contract documents
Prepare daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by contractors
Perform materials testing and maintain testing logs
Review periodic pay estimates for accuracy with contractors
Prepare sketches and assemble data for engineers to make changes to the project
Prepare Inspector Daily Reports on work accomplished and/or noted deficiencies
Perform sophisticated, complicated mathematical calculations
Review contractor schedules including initial CPM and monthly updates
Communicate effectively with the engineer, owner and owner’s operational and field staff, keeping them apprised of field conditions and maintaining active communication with the owner and the entire project team throughout the construction process
Requirements
Minimum of two (2) years of specific horizontal transportation field construction inspection experience
Must have a High School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate; a Bachelor’s Degree or other advanced certificate desirable
Demonstrated inspection and management experience with roadway and bridge construction, utility construction, and related pavement rehabilitation projects that require monitoring a contractor’s work for conformance to design plans, specifications and general permit requirements
Experience coordinating inspection duties with multiple simultaneously operating crews
Experience tracking daily quantities, completing daily inspection reports, performing monthly estimates and as‑built drawings
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Strong communication skills
Ability to read/interpret plans and specifications
Writing and drawing skills necessary to complete inspection reports and documentation
Basic computer skills (Word & Excel) desirable

Intro to Asphalt Pavements
Erosion and Sedimentation Control, Level 2
Conventional Density Testing
Aggregate Base Course (ABC) Sampling
Borrow Pit Sampling
Nuclear Safety and Hazard Material
Nuclear Density Testing – Base Select and FDR Materials
Level I Concrete Field Technician – NCDOT/ACI
AMS Asphalt Roadway Technician
Physical Requirements (Essential Functions)
Walk and navigate across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces
Move around active project sites, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles
Perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
Remain in a stationary position—either standing or sitting—for extended periods of time
Perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or cart objects up to 50 pounds up to 25 yards/miles
Drive to and from project sites which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 100 miles round trip
Must be able to function safely in an environment with potential risks, including—but not limited to—those described above
Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
