Program Context The Office of Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) is responsible for the management and oversight of the Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program in New York City. The program enables individuals with serious mental illness to live safely in the community, avoid repeated inpatient hospitalizations, and ensures comprehensive outpatient services.
Position Summary Provide clinical expertise specific to AOT cases in order to enhance the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the AOT case monitor and support staff to intervene on complex AOT cases.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Train and onboard all newly hired Case Monitors and SW Supervisors for the first 90 days as an employee, with the option to extend that training period if necessary.
In conjunction with QI and input from the Assistant Directors, put together a training protocol for newly hired clinical staff.
Collaborate with the Senior AOT Management to design, develop, and present learning tools to assist AOT case monitors and Social Work supervisors.
Work with the supervisors of newly hired staff to help them develop an understanding of AOT procedures and policies, and create tools to help them organize caseloads and meet required deadlines.
Assist new clinical staff in the preparation of treatment plans and legal documents required for obtaining a court order with a focus on meeting deadlines.
In conjunction with the CAT Team, teach new staff how to complete requests for involuntary transports.
Assess the quality and development of new staff, providing the Assistant Director and supervisors reports about the progress of new hires.
Assist in writing the initial Tasks and Standards and the initial three-month performance evaluation.
Provide training to external providers and hospitals as needed, working in conjunction with the Quality Improvement Team.
Participate in Quality Improvement reviews and special projects.
Participate on hiring panels for new staff.
Provide coverage as needed when SW Supervisors and/or Asst. Directors are out.
Oversee administrative responsibilities, including staff timekeeping and participation in the hiring process, and provide administrative oversight in the absence of the team Assistant Director when.
Assist the program as needed in the development of staff.
Preferred Skills
Supervisory experience within a NYS AOT program.
Extensive knowledge of community mental health resources.
Familiarity with mental health terminology.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to interface with service providers from all sectors of the service system.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and three years of full‑time satisfactory experience practicing social work utilizing one, or a combination of, casework, group work and community organization methodologies, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Certification/License Requirements: A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work license (LMSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of the date of appointment. Employees who fail to obtain their CSW or LMSW within one year after appointment will automatically have their probationary period extended for no more than six months. Failure to obtain the CSW or LMSW by the end of 18 months of service will result in dismissal.
Special Note: Section 424‑a of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child‑care responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report. The agency has the discretion to assign a candidate who has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report to a position with no child‑care responsibilities.
