Proskauer is seeking a Senior Managing Clerk, based in the New York office, to support the Firm’s Litigation and Labor & Employment Departments. The Senior Managing Clerk will manage the filing process for all court and administrative documents. The Senior Managing Clerk will work closely with the Managing Attorney and other members of the Managing Attorney’s Office to ensure that documents are filed, deadlines are calendared, and cases are properly docketed. The Senior Managing Clerk will also work with the Firm’s other departments, including Knowledge Services and Knowledge Management, to utilize emerging technologies to improve the efficiency of the Managing Attorney’s Office.

Perform the service and filing of federal and state court and administrative agency documents prepared by the Firm, including electronic filings, commencement of cases, and filings under seal

Coordinate with outside attorney service organizations to respond to various requests (e.g. service of process, document retrieval, and TRO / appeal bonds)

Conduct research for and retrieve court and administrative agency documents

Conduct research for and locate sample court documents to be used by our attorneys as they prepare their papers for filing

Complete docket and calendar related diary entries using CompuLaw for all court and administrative agency documents served and filed, or received by the Firm

Assist with the docketing and calendaring of the daily ECF, NYSCEF and other case related notices received by the Firm

Assist with the submission of emergency orders to show cause in city, state and federal courts

Utilize on-line computer based research applications such as CourtLink, CourtAlert, PACER, PACERPro, Bloomberg Law, and others

Monitor rule updates and judges’ practices

Have working knowledge of state and federal court rules and procedures in all jurisdictions where Firm matters are filed, including procedures regarding filing under seal, and advise the attorneys when requested regarding such rules and procedures For jurisdictions where the Senior Managing Clerk does not have such working knowledge, conduct research into attorney questions regarding court rules and procedures

Review court documents prior to filing and advise attorneys of any changes or edits needed to comply with court rules and procedures, including explaining why such changes or edits are necessary

Liaise with court personnel as needed, including regarding procedural questions and then convey relevant information to our attorneys

Evaluate emerging technologies and platforms that impact e-filing, docketing, and calendaring practices with an eye towards improving efficiency of the Managing Attorney’s Office and the Firm as a whole

Assist with preparing responses to requests for audit inquiry information in the absence of the Managing Attorney

Assist with registering attorneys for state and federal court e-filing credentials, including, but not limited to NYSCEF and NextGen, and troubleshoot and resolve various credentials issues as they arise

Assist with enrolling attorneys on CourtAlert Vault and maintaining NextGen, NYSCEF, and other e-filing credentials on Vault and in internal repositories

Train and mentor junior staff in the Managing Attorney’s Office as needed

Bachelor’s degree is required

5+ years of law firm managing clerk experience required

Strong knowledge of local state and federal court rules, including the CPLR, FRCP and FRAP

Mastery of New York State Courts E-Filing (NYSCEF), federal court CM / ECF and CompuLaw calendaring system, including procedures for filing under seal in New York State and federal courts

Proficiency in e-filing and calendaring rules and procedures in other jurisdictions (such as California state courts) a plus

Knowledge of CourtLink, CourtAlert, PACER, PacerPro, LexMachina; knowledge of Lexis and Westlaw a plus

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment that will utilize prioritizing and multitasking skills

Strong written and verbal communication

Excellent client service skills and collaborative teamwork mentality

Willingness to work overtime as needed

This position will require physical presence in Proskauer’s offices on a regular basis (at least 3x per week, or more, if it becomes the policy of the Firm or as business needs require).The anticipated compensation range for this position is $120,000-$150,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and / or from which they will be performing the job.
