Heat Treat Operator – Requisition #1300 Vermont Precision Tools, Inc.

Full Time - Hourly / Non-Exempt

Shift:

2nd Shift (10% shift differential) – Overtime may be required.

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm (Alternative hours may be considered).

Training Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Wage Rate:

$18.00 to $29.50 (starting wage negotiable based on experience).

Position Summary:

In this fast‑paced role the employee operates heat‑treating processes to ensure products meet specified Rockwell hardness standards.

Essential Job Functions

Determine temperature and time of heating cycles to achieve specific Rockwell hardness.

Monitor the furnace and tempering ovens.

Prepare and load baskets.

Control furnace and oven amperage and temperature settings.

Monitor the nitrogen generator and meters to maintain production quality and flow.

Perform miscellaneous tasks related to overall duties of a Heat Treat Operator.

Use cut‑off saws for sample cutting.

Operate Rockwell testers to determine hardness of raw material.

Straighten heat‑treated materials using straightening press, anvils, hammers, and straightening plates.

Dismantle and repair furnace and tempering ovens.

Inspect production parts for quality control.

Enter data for job tracking purposes.

Follow all company policies, ergonomic standards, and safety protocols.

Regular and on‑time attendance is required; be at work on time when scheduled and remain at work throughout the established schedule.

Qualifications Education:

High school education required or equivalent.

Skills and Experience:

Ability to read, write, and perform basic math (fractions, decimals, metrics, conversions) and apply basic geometry and trigonometry.

Mechanically inclined (preferred).

Basic computer skills; able to operate in Windows and non‑Windows environments.

Ability to establish and maintain professional, effective working relationships with co‑workers at all levels.

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Ability to carry out assigned tasks and projects to completion with minimal supervision.
