Overview
RTS - Regional Transit Service invites applications for the Master Electrician position. The role focuses on the maintenance and installation of electrical distribution systems across RTS facilities, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations. Base Pay Range
$40.27 per hour. Responsibilities
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and testlamps. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment such as motors. Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Work from ladders, scaffolds, powered lifts, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Place conduit inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets. Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects. Qualifications
Must have a full set of tools to perform all jobs assigned. Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs. A valid NYS driver's license and clean driving record required. Must obtain a New York State CDL Class B permit with passenger and air brake endorsement prior to start date. Current license as a Master Electrician (Three-phase) issued by the City of Rochester Electrical Examining Board. Education & Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED). Candidate must have met all requirements as listed above. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools. Ability to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Proficient computer skills, including basic Microsoft Office, Trapeze EAM, Adobe Acrobat Reader. Excellent verbal and communication skills. Strong time management skills. Physical Demands & Work Environment
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The work environment includes outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, near moving mechanical parts, and moderate to loud noise.
