Job Summary Our

Insight Psychiatric Hospital

is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP)

to join our medical team. This role will focus on providing exceptional psychiatric care to our patients, integrating mental health services within our neurosurgical and rehabilitation model. The Psychiatric NP will work closely with patients, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric conditions, ensuring a holistic approach to care. The NP will also engage in both patient assessment and therapeutic interventions, with a focus on improving mental health and overall patient outcomes.

Job Duties

Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of patients, including the assessment of mental health conditions and co-occurring physical health issues

Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnoses

Prescribe medications, provide medication management, and adjust treatments as needed to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including neurologists, orthopedists, and rehabilitation specialists, to integrate mental health care into broader treatment plans

Provide counseling and therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing psychiatric distress

Educate patients and families regarding psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and coping strategies

Conduct follow-up assessments to track patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary

Maintain thorough and accurate patient records, adhering to all regulatory and privacy standards

Respond to mental health emergencies and provide timely intervention when required

Advocate for patient needs, helping them navigate complex healthcare systems and treatment options

Stay current with advancements in psychiatric care and neuroscience, integrating new knowledge into practiceDemonstrate leadership and professionalism, serving as a role model for clinical staff and fellow practitioners

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, ensuring continuous enhancement of patient care

Qualifications

Current Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner licensure in the State of Michigan

Master’s degree in Nursing (Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program)

Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric care (preferred)

Ability to prescribe medications and manage pharmacologic treatments

Strong knowledge of psychiatric conditions, treatment modalities, and evidence-based practices

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds and experiences

Proven ability to manage time and resources effectively in a fast-paced, clinical environment

Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice

Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach in all patient interactions

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations

Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and education

Physical Requirements

May be expected to lift or assist with the lifting of patients up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds with assistance

Work is of moderate physical demand, with long periods of standing, walking, and sitting

Visual and auditory acuity necessary for patient care and documentation

Must be able to communicate clearly with patients and healthcare teams

Ability to manage physical, emotional, and stressful demands in the workplace

Exposure to medical environments, including potential exposure to infectious agents and hazardous materials
