Position Summary

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading a team of supervisors and employees, managing all aspects of the warehouse day-to-day operations, and fostering a positive work environment. This position ensures compliance with safety and food safety standards, processes, regulatory requirements, and maintains product integrity while meeting inbound and outbound schedule timelines. The leader prioritizes customer service, team building, staff development and cross-departmental collaboration and communication.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads and manages the warehouse team, overseeing warehouse operations.
  • Ensures all warehouse associates are safely and properly trained and supervised daily.
  • Ensures compliance with Feeding America, USDA, Texas Department of Agriculture, OSHA, and food safety and sanitation compliance standards, and prepares for all audits.
  • Executes all warehouse management-related tasks, including day-to-day planning and scheduling.
  • Works with inventory, distribution, and warehouse to ensure First Expired First Out (FEFO)/First In First Out (FIFO) is followed.
  • Ensures the product received and shipped is inspected for quality control and properly tagged prior to storing and distribution.
  • Collaborates with Volunteer Services and Programs to align on production planning.
  • Ensures the cleanliness, condition, and organization of the warehouse.
  • Prepares and analyzes reports on warehouse activities and productivity metrics via WMS and ERP systems to ensure efficiencies and minimize waste.
  • Leads continuous improvement of processes and procedures to consistently maintain accurate records, achieve distribution goals, ensure product quality, and deliver excellent customer service.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages two or more direct reports by providing guidance and/or oversight to employees and/or contractors. Develops and maintains roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Practices performance management in support of employee development and performs administrative duties associated with people management.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive management experience, preferably within a food distribution environment.
  • 3+ years of prior management experience managing exempt-level employees.
  • Demonstrated leadership with strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Prior experience with ERP (e.g., Oracle NetSuite, SAP).
  • Proficient in supply chain and logistics software, including WMS.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain certification within 3 months.
  • Six Sigma Certification or Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Compliance

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with HFB policies.

Physical Requirements

Requires daily standing or stationary position for a significant portion of the workday; frequently moves around the warehouse; lifts 10 pounds; occasionally travels to other sites for business.

Work Environment

Enclosed office and warehouse environment with exposure to loud noise, strong food-related smells, outside weather conditions, and potential chemical hazards.

Travel Required

Minimal travel up to 20% of the time on a domestic basis. Supports all hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities as necessary and requires a flexible work schedule.

Salary Description

Starting Pay: $64,600 – $80,750
