Description
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading a team of supervisors and employees, managing all aspects of the warehouse day-to-day operations, and fostering a positive work environment. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and food safety standards, processes, regulatory requirements, and maintaining product integrity while meeting inbound and outbound schedule timelines. This leader prioritizes customer service, team building, staff development as well as cross-departmental collaboration and communication.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Leads and manages the warehouse team, overseeing warehouse operations.
- Ensures all warehouse associates are safely and properly trained and supervised daily.
- Ensures compliance with Feeding America, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), OSHA, food safety and sanitation compliance standards, and prepares for all audits.
- Executes all warehouse management-related tasks, including but not limited to day-to-day warehouse planning and scheduling.
- Works with inventory, distribution, and warehouse to ensure First Expired First Out (FEFO)/ First In First Out (FIFO) is being followed.
- Ensures the product received and shipped is inspected for quality control and properly tagged prior to storing and distribution.
- Collaborates with Volunteer Services and Programs to align on production planning.
- Ensures the cleanliness, condition and organization of the warehouse.
- Prepares and analyzes reports on warehouse activities and productivity metrics via Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to ensure efficiencies and minimize waste.
- Leads continuous improvement of processes and procedures to consistently maintain accurate records, achieve distribution goals, ensure product quality, and deliver excellent customer service.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages two or more direct reports by providing guidance and/or oversight to employees and/or contractors. Develops and maintains roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Practices performance management in support of employee development, and perform administrative duties associated with being a people manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include sponsoring and participating in and/or supporting project teams sponsored by other management team members.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Associate's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive management experience, preferably within a food distribution environment or equivalent.
- 3+ years of prior management experience managing exempt-level employees.
- Demonstrated leadership with strategic planning and budgeting.
- Prior experience with ERP (i.e., Oracle NetSuite, SAP).
- Proficient in supply chain and logistics software, including WMS.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain certification within 3 months.
- Six Sigma Certification or Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee must regularly move about the warehouse and around the facility, use hands, wrists, and fingers to grip, type, and write. The employee must frequently lift 10 pounds. The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The employee must occasionally travel to other sites for business.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the employee is frequently exposed to the warehouse, refrigerator, freezer, enclosed and/or tight spaces, wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be frequently exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).
This role supports all hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities as necessary and requires a flexible work schedule.
