The Parks and Recreation Department of Lake Zurich is seeking an experienced and dynamic Aquatics Coordinator for a seasonal position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of two open water beaches, managing a team of over 40 lifeguards and gate guards, and coordinating aquatic programs and events. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a passion for providing a safe and engaging beach environment. This is a seasonal role, with administrative duties beginning in April and beach operations running from Memorial Day through Labor Day, including the July 4th holiday.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily activities of two open water beaches, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficient operation.
  • Manage a staff of over 40 lifeguards and gate guards, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Plan, organize, and execute aquatic programs and special events, including swim lessons.
  • Maintain operational oversight of all aquatic-related activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Ensure staff are properly certified and trained in lifeguard and safety procedures.
  • Handle customer inquiries and provide excellent customer service to park visitors.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of beach activities, staff schedules, and aquatic program participation.
  • Collaborate with other Parks and Recreation staff to ensure seamless operation of all department functions.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of events during peak seasons, including special events around holidays such as the July 4th holiday.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Position Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least two years of direct aquatics experience required.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a large team of employees.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.
  • Successful completion of a background check, post-offer employment physical, and drug screening is required.

Work Schedule

  • Beach Hours: 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Sunday.
  • Days Off: Two days each week.
  • Seasonal Duration: Administrative duties begin in April; beach operations run Memorial Day through Labor Day, including the July 4th holiday.
