Security Hiring Event – Friday, December 19, 2025 – Security Officers (All Shifts)

Starting pay $25.00 hourly for entry‑level positions, with increases for Security Level I & II and Crisis Intervention Specialist positions, plus shift differential. Focus is on the Crisis Intervention Specialist role.

The Crisis Intervention Specialist

Under the direction of the Security leadership team and guidance of PBMU nursing leadership, the Security Specialist is the primary responder for all safety concerns in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (PBMU), both individually and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The specialist interacts with patients experiencing behavioral or mental‑health crisis to decrease emotional, physical, and mental stress levels using verbal and non‑verbal de‑escalation techniques and, if necessary, utilizing Crisis Prevention Institute physical techniques to bring aggressive patients under control for further therapeutic clinical intervention.

The Security Officer

Primary responder for all safety concerns, security incidents, and service requests at facilities owned or occupied by Seattle Children’s. Responsibilities include deterrence, detection, prevention, response, and documentation of incidents that risk the safety and well‑being of patients, families, visitors, workforce members, and property using appropriate protocols, emergency response procedures, and non‑violent crisis intervention methods.

Working Hours

All shifts – day, night, evening, plus weekends. Positions may be part‑time or on‑call; part‑time assignments are benefits‑eligible.

Required Education and Experience

  • Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Level II: Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or a combination of 3 years of related security experience.
  • Crisis Intervention Specialist:
    • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field, minimum 1 year related security experience, or 3 years of related experience may offset the degree requirement.

Required Credentials

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • CPI Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification within 90 days of hire (annual requirement).
  • Completion of NCI Autism Training within 12 months of hire.
  • Completion of Seattle Children’s Safe Firearms Training within 12 months of hire.
  • Safety Cares certification within 90 days of hire if required for location (annual requirement).
  • Completion of Car Seat Safety Training within 12 months of hire if required for position/role.
  • Score of 80 % or above on Seattle Children’s Security Competency Exam in assigned area within 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Completion of wheelchair vehicle training.
  • IAHSS Basic Certification.

Compensation Range

$21.64 – $39.76 per hour (calculated for full‑time employment).
